It is the largest inner city shopping centre in Austria and is destined to become Innsbruck's new commercial landmark – the Tyrol department store. After a planning and construction time of more than six years, a new complex has been created on the site of the former traditional Tyrol department store in the middle of the city. It has been completely revitalised and redesigned with 50 retail shops, abundant catering businesses and an overall surface area of 30,000 m2. The building was erected according to a design by the British architect, David Chipperfield, and is conspicuous from afar, in particular because of its extraordinary architectural façade made out of white prefabricated concrete components.
